Waahli
Waahli is a Montreal artist of Haitian origin. Since 2004, he has also been co-founder of the Hip-Hop group Nomadic Massive. His Hip-Hop-influenced music is defined by a distinctive Afro-Caribbean touch. His songs take us to the four corners of the world, with powerful ancestral rhythms. His music is accompanied by committed lyrics that reflect the reality of both yesterday and today. He sings in English, French and Haitian Creole.
Since May 2023, Waahli has been one of the 6 Révélations Radio Canada 2023-2024. He was also nominated at the ADISQ Gala for Best Multilingual and Other Languages Album of the Year. He was also nominated at the Juno Awards for Best Album of the Year in the Global Music category. Waahli released his second album ”Soap Box” on September 30, 2022, and her new EP Saponification on December 15, 2023.
Saponification features 4 songs and an introduction with Dice B from the Nuit Blanche TV show, and was co-produced with Lou Piensa. The lyrics are mainly in French and Haitian Creole. In this musical universe, Waahli tackles themes such as solidarity within the Haitian diaspora in Montreal, human relationships but also the celebration of one’s journey, the importance of listening to oneself and following one’s own intuition. The rhythms and melodies are a blend of reggae, hip-hop and Haitian funk.
