Look up and admire a sky lit up with a thousand colours! No, it’s not a rainbow, but some twenty dazzling hot-air balloons invading the skies over Parc de la Baie de Gatineau! conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During FMG, take-offs take place every day at around 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. <\/strong>Please note that there are no flights on Wednesday mornings.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should be noted that flights are subject to weather conditions, flight directors’ authorisation and the pilot’s decision.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the event of adverse conditions prohibiting liftoff from the Parc de la Baie in the morning, alternative sites have been set up in Gatineau! There are 3 of them: \u00c9cole polyvalente de l’\u00c9rabli\u00e8re, Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport and Lord Aylmer Elementary School\/parc Champagne.<\/p>\n\n\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Under which conditions can hot air balloons fly?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The hot air balloon is very capricious and requires very specific weather conditions to be able to take off, or even simply to deploy while remaining on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a hot air balloon to take off, you need wind speed of more than 3 km\/h and less than 14 km\/h<\/strong>, and wind direction must allow for a safe landing. There can be no rain, fog or storm<\/strong> within a 50 km radius from the lift-off area or along the flight trajectory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s why, sometimes, hot air balloons can’t fly even if the weather is nice outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be able to inflate a hot air balloon and keep it on the ground, for captive flights<\/strong> or Night Glow<\/strong>, the same conditions must be respected, except for the wind speed which must be lower than 8 km\/h<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reading the flags<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After checking the weather, the Flight Directors will authorize or prohibit the hot air balloon flights. Pilots interpret the flags flying at the take-off area as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\t

The green flag means that all pilots have the go-ahead for hot air inflation. This does not mean that they can lift-off. The pilots have to get permission from the flight officers before lifting off.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
